Object:
a container of ladybugs
Scripture: Luke 12:8-9
And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God, but whoever denies me before others will be denied before the angels of God.
Material: a container of ladybugs
(Keep the bugs hidden during the introduction.) I brought a new visitor to class today. Can you guess who it is? I'll give some hints (Give hints and allow for guesses. Suggested hints: she is small and round; she can fly; she likes to live around rose bushes; she eats aphids; and she is red and has black spots.) Very good! You guessed it. Our special guest today is a ladybug. (bring out your container of ladybugs)
Ladybugs are one of my favorite insects. They sure are pretty, aren't they?
Now you know, some insects are the color of the plants they live on. They are green or brown or gray. This helps them to hide from predators. That big word, "predator," means other animals want to eat them for lunch! But the ladybug is not afraid to show off her pretty, red color. She is not ashamed. Do you know why? Ladybugs taste terrible! Their pretty, red color is like a stop sign to predators: "Stop! Don't eat that!"
You know what? We can learn something from the ladybug. Just like she is not ashamed to wear her bright, red color, we should not be ashamed to wear the name of Jesus. Jesus said that if we were ashamed of him, he would be ashamed of us. But if we are bold and brave about Jesus like the ladybug is bold and brave about her red color, then he will be proud to say that he knows us. Let's make Jesus proud! Don't be ashamed!
