It is a beauteous evening, calm and free
The holy time is quiet as a nun
Breathless with adoration; the broad sun
Is sinking down in its tranquility;
The gentleness of heaven broods o'er the sea;
Listen. God being with (us) when we know it not.
As William Wordsworth described an evening walk with his wife and child, so might he have described a Sunday evening walk of centuries ago from Jerusalem to the village of Emmaus. Two followers of Jesus were returning home from the Passover festivities in the Holy City.
