SOMEONE: What was it?
1ST PLAYER: It was ...
2ND PLAYER: Don't tell it! I get to do it now.
GEORGE: Let's start. We already know it's a parable! (GROUP APPLAUDS AND LAUGHS)
2ND PLAYER:
(ACTING OUT BUILDING A HOUSE. A FEW AD LIBS, BUT THEY GET IT)
JANE: A man building a house!
(EXPLOSION OF APPLAUSE. IN THE EXCITEMENT THE PERSON HOLDING THE BIBLE LOSES HIS PLACE SO THAT WHEN THE 2ND PLAYER RETURNS TO LOOK AT THE BIBLE IT IS ON ANOTHER PAGE. 2ND PLAYER MIMES SOWING SEED)

JANE: There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth! (2ND PLAYER MIMES GIVING MONEY AWAY)
SAM: And the next day he gave money to the innkeeper. (APPLAUSE. 2ND PLAYER MIMES MAN FINDING SHEEP)
JANE: Rejoice with me for I have found my sheep which was lost! (CELEBRATION. 2ND PLAYER MIMES EARS HEARING)
GEORGE: Those who have ears, let them hear!
2ND PLAYER: That's it. We win.
1ST PLAYER: That's it? It doesn't mean anything.
2ND PLAYER: Of course it does. It's a parable. All parables are hard to understand. What have we got?
JANE: A man building a house (Luke 6:48)!
SAM: Went out to sow some seed (Luke 8:5)!
GREG: And when a priest saw him he passed by on the other side (Luke 10:31)!
JANE: And God said to him, "You fool, this night your soul will be required of you (Luke 12:20)!
GREG: Three years I have found no fruit on this fig tree (Luke 13:7).
SAM: The birds came and ate it up (Luke 8:5).
GREG: If the owner had known what hour the thief was coming he would not have let his house be broken into (Luke 12:39).
JANE: There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Luke 13:28)!
GREG: And he was longing to fill his stomach with the pods the swine were eating (Luke 15:16).
SAM: And the next day he gave money to the innkeeper (Luke 10:35).
JANE: Rejoice with me for I have found my sheep which was lost (Luke 15:6).
GEORGE: Those who have ears, let them hear!
1ST PLAYER: I never heard that parable before. What does it mean?
2ND PLAYER: What does it mean? Good question. What does it mean?
1ST PLAYER: You don't understand it either, do you?
2ND PLAYER: Well, not exactly. No.
1ST PLAYER: Jesus said, only those in the Kingdom could understand.
2ND PLAYER: Does anyone understand it? (NO ONE DOES) There, you see. No one understands it.
1ST PLAYER: Great. We're all out of God's Kingdom.
2ND PLAYER: Well, ah, it's good to know where you stand.
1ST PLAYER: I want to be in God's Kingdom. Help me understand.
2ND PLAYER: No one here can help you. We don't understand either. We all want to be in God's Kingdom, too.
JANE: What if the parable has a different application to each of us?
GEORGE: That sounds reasonable.
SAM: That sounds like something God would do. Teach one story and have it apply to a whole group.
1ST PLAYER: Then let's all pray that God would teach us individually what it means.
GREG: I think it means the Kingdom of God will grow in our hearts, not always the way we expect.
JANE: It sounds to me like God will judge us according to what we do in this life with what we know.
GEORGE: I don't know. I think it might mean that we are all called by God to spread the gospel.
SAM: Could it mean that we are supposed to help each other no matter what the cost?
2ND PLAYER: This entire parable is a mess. You know what? I think it could mean the Lord loves us no matter how much we mess up!
1ST PLAYER: That might just be it.
Jesus' Parables can speak to us -- even though we mess things up.
