Gospel Lesson: Luke 6:20-31
Theme: Blessings And Woes
Call To Worship (Psalm 32:1-7)
One: Happy are those whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
All: Happy are those to whom the Lord imputes no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
One: While I kept silence, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long.
All: For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.
One: Then I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not hide my iniquity; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord," and you forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah
All: Therefore let all who are faithful offer prayer to you; at a time of distress, the rush of mighty waters shall not reach them.
One And All: You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with glad cries of deliverance.
Collect
God of nations, God of history, God of peace, God of hope, we praise you this morning, secure in your love, trusting in your wisdom, and patient in our enduring the tumult of the times. We pray for your guidance upon your people this week, both here in our nation, and among all your children the world over, as we humbly seek your will for our lives. We confess our sins to you and thank you for your steadfast love and mercy. You are our hiding place, our sanctuary from trouble. Surround us with those glad cries of deliverance. We pray today in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
One: Rejoice in that day and leap for joy,
All: for surely our reward is great in heaven!
One: We celebrate the memory of those who have gone before us, successful in their witness.
All: We share their resolve and hope to be found as worthy and as saved. Amen.
