Go And Lo
Children's sermon
Object:
Presenter creates an item. Draws a picture, makes an object out of Play-Doh, forms a figure out of cloth, or wire etc.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations....and lo I am with you always...” (v. 19b, 20b)
Good morning, boys and girls,
It's so much fun to make something out of nothing. I love to create and invent something “out of the blue.” Watch me (draws picture, makes a figure, or colors in an adult coloring book etc.) See how much fun it is to create something.
Do you like to make things? (children answer)
One day before Jesus left his friends and disciples he told his followers something very, very important! I want you to make something. “What is it Jesus?” they asked. “Go therefore and make disciples,” he told them. “Go make disciples of all the nations.” Wow. That is quite an order! You know, boys and girls, that's exactly what the disciples did. And today there are millions of disciples all over the world.
So how do adults and kids, and everybody make disciples today?
Here's a few clues:
To make disciples, we use our mouths. We talk. (make mouth motions)
We speak. We use words. We tell others that Jesus died for them on the cross for their sins.
We use our hands. We take the hand of a friend and bring them to church. (hand motions)
We use our arms. Arms are for hugging those who are sad and lonely and lost. (make hugging motions)
We use our feet. We walk over to a neighbor who is different from us and who has no friends and make him/her our new friend. We walk to the assisted living or nursing homes and visit grandmas and grandads and bring them the joy and love of Jesus.
And you know what?
Actually -- it's Jesus who is making disciples with our help. Jesus said, “Lo,” that is, “remember, that I am with you
