Moldy bread and a fresh loaf of Italian bread
How many of you have ever smelled fresh bread baking? It makes you so hungry. Maybe you will have some for Thanksgiving. Does anyone want a piece of this fresh bread? But eventually this great bread will become like this moldy bread. It won't last for a very long time.
Our story today is from John 6:26 and says, I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life. Jesus went on to tell them, I am the bread of life Think about it... bread is very satisfying, bread energizes, and bread gives us strength. Doesn't that all describe Jesus? He satisfies, he energizes us, and he gives us strength.
Some countries have fresh bread every day as a part of their daily diet. It isn't a meal unless there is bread. One time there was an American family living in Spain and they had invited Spanish friends for lunch. However, they did not serve bread as they did not realize how important it was. During the meal the Spanish friends asked them for bread and they soon learned that it was extremely important to always have bread!
In the same way having Jesus as our bread of life is extremely important and for us we cannot live life without him.
How Do We Apply This to Our Lives?
Do we want peace and happiness? Do we look at things such as a new toy, a great movie, or a yummy food to satisfy? These things taste great for the moment but just like the bread it will grow old and moldy. But Jesus and a relationship with him will be forever!
Let Us Pray.
Dear Lord, we thank you for making our lives better. We will work hard to share your goodness with others. Amen
