Jesus often told his disciples stories to help them learn important lessons. It says in Luke 18:1, Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
Jesus wants us to have a persistence when we pray as it makes us stronger in our faith in God. I want to tell you a modern day story that also teaches that same lesson about prayer.
How many of you have pets that you just love dearly? (Let them tell you what pets they have.) Our pets become very much a part of our families, don't they. This was true for a cat named Zak. He had been in his family since he was a baby kitten. Oh how they loved him. But there was a problem. The family was living in Spain as missionaries and were returning to live in the USA. When they called to see how much it would cost to take him on the plane it was too much money, like $500! The parents didn't know what to do. Their son told them that if they could take him to the states that he would give all of his allowance for the rest of his life.
The parents told their kids to pray and they did for weeks. It got to the moment to buy the plane tickets and still they did not have a solution and the daddy said again, "Let's pray." Right then the phone rang and it was an airline calling back. They had a price for the cat and it was only $100 compared to $500. Then the question was how much did the regular tickets for the family cost. Guess what... the price was also cheaper. The family praised God and saw how God even cared about kids with a cat! Zak became a reminder to them of God's power to answer prayer.
How Can We Apply This To Our Lives?
Is there something you are concerned about? It is not too small or too big of a situation for God. Talk to Him often with persistence and your faith will grow.
Let Us Pray,
Dear God, we know you care very much for us. Please hear our prayers and know that we love. Amen.
