Can of bug spray
How many of you listen to your mom the first time she tells you to do something?
Jeremy was getting ready to go to summer camp. His mother reminded him to be sure to pack a can of bug spray. He remembered to pack his football, his cool sunglasses, and bags of chips. But do you think he packed the bug spray? He hated bug spray because it was so sticky and smelly. The first night of camp they had a big campfire and as he sat there he began to slap the mosquitoes, big whopper ones. The next morning he was itching like mad. It was too late!
Jeremy is similar to a man in our Bible story. He was a very rich guy but he hadn't listened to how God wanted him to live. He was stubborn just like Jeremy. He didn't pay attention to God in caring for the poor. It tells us in Luke 16:19 that, "he was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazurus, covered with sores and he longed to eat what fell from the rich man's table."
The rich man had his own ideas of how he should live and he didn't take time to care for the poor. What happened next to this rich man was a very hard consequence. He died and was sent to hell as it tells us in Luke 16:24.
If only he had listened to God's way of living, if only, Jeremy had listened to bring his bug spray, if only, We would do what God says...
How Can We Apply This to Our Lives?
May we be quick to do what is right in God's eyes and not have a stubborn attitude. It starts out by being a good listener with our parents and with our teachers. We can avoid a lot of mosquito bites If only... otherwise it may be too late.
Let Us Pray.
Dear Lord, please help us to be better at listening and minding what we are asked to do. Amen.
