Get Rich In God
Children's sermon
Null
Object:
2 wallets (one wallet with bills of $5, $10, and $20 and the other with slips of paper in it saying things like, giving food to hungry families, visiting your older neighbors, raking leaves, helping internationals/foreigners)
What is inside your wallet? Would you like to see inside mine? (Let the children pull out $5, $10, and $20 bills.) Wow! That is pretty special and exciting! Do you feel happy? But what happens if a robber or pick pocket comes along. It can disappear in a moment and it is GONE. Many times when people are getting on a bus or subway and there are lots of people around -- a pick pocket can grab a person's wallet very easily out of their pocket. (demonstrate) The people have no idea who took their money. I do know who took my money and so need it back please. (Collect bills back.)
In our Bible story today there was a very rich man. He was very wealthy and so he said in Luke 12:19 "And I'll say to myself, you have plenty of good things laid up for many years, take life easy, eat, drink, and be merry."
He was looking to his riches for his security instead of God. Money can be here today and gone tomorrow. Instead this man needs to have his focus on being wealthy with God. He needed his wallet to have a different type of richness. Let's look at my second wallet to see what that might look like. (Have children pull out slips of paper and read ... giving food to hungry families, visiting older people, raking leaves, helping internationals/foreigners) This is what has value in God's eyes. Guess what -- if someone pick pockets you or robs you, your treasure is in heaven and they can't take it away.
How can we apply this to our lives?
Get rich -- in God's eyes. Look for ways to fill your wallet up with things that last. When you do have wealth think of how you can use it to bless others not just spend it all on yourself.
