God who blesses the poor...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority The local community Those who suffer The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.
God who blesses the poor, may we in the Church always recognise our spiritual poverty. May we remain aware of our spiritual inadequacy, so that we are never tempted to boast but are always recipients of your blessings. When your Church is ambivalent about material wealth, may we hear afresh your words spoken through Jesus to the people on the mountain. And may we who are comparatively wealthy, hear and receive insight from your Church which witnesses in areas of poverty.
Today with the world-wide Church we pray especially for the church in Bangladesh, one of the poorest areas in the world.
God who blesses the hungry, may we who are full so learn to share our wealth and our food that everyone is fed. May we never be content to rest complacently, until physical hunger is banished from the earth. Give us such hunger for justice that we cannot relax until all enjoy basic human rights, especially the right to enough to eat.
We remember before you today those parts of the world where people are always hungry, especially....
God who blesses the tearful, thank you for the gift of tears, for those who are able to weep are also able to feel your presence. Help those who are unable to weep, to get so in touch with their inner being that they too may become very aware of the blessings of the God within. Where there are tears of remorse, forgive and heal. Where there are tears of mourning, support and strengthen. Where there are tears of deep inner pain, love and restore.
We hold in silence in your presence those who weep and those who ought to weep....
God who heals the sick, we gather into your presence those of our friends and families who are ill, and those who watch over them. Pour your healing power throughout their bodies and souls, that they may know again the joy of full health and strength. We name them before you (in our own hearts)....
God who resurrects the dead, we remember those of our families and friends who have died and but who are now alive with you, and thank you for their lives on this earth. May they know that they are never forgotten. And we bring especially into your presence those in this life who have lost someone they love, either recently or in previous years at this time. May they feel your arms around them, bringing them the comfort and reassurance that only you can give.
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
