Vulnerable And Self-Effacing God...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
Vulnerable and self-effacing God, life stripped you of all you possessed and hung you on a cross to die. Rather than fight against that terrible fate, you hung there utterly alone facing it and accepting it, enduring it, and maybe you were even able to rejoice in it. Vulnerable God, when I rage against life's difficult times give me your strength, that I may accept vulnerability, lean on you and face what must be faced. And so doing, I too shall inherit eternal life.
Vulnerable God, when I rage against life's difficult times give me your strength, that I may accept vulnerability and so inherit eternal life.
Vulnerable God, when your Church is called upon to suffer, enable us to embrace that suffering at least with acceptance, and if possible, with joy. May we gladly share in the sufferings of others, bearing their burdens with them. But help us not to make merit out of suffering, but rather to experience it to the full, and thus experiencing, to learn more of you and of your ways.
With Christians across the world we pray especially today for your Church in Victoria (Australia), and in Vasteras (Sweden) with Bishop Claes-Bertil Ytterberg.
Vulnerable God, enable us to embrace any suffering and to share in the sufferings of others, that we may learn more of you and of your ways. Today we pray especially for your Church in Victoria (Australia), and in Vasteras (Sweden) with Bishop Claes-Bertil Ytterberg.
Vulnerable God, enable us to relieve the unnecessary suffering in the world. May we never be content to sit passively watching while others suffer, but be moved to action to prevent and alleviate suffering. May we use your gift of politics to solve our problems peacefully, and may we make sure that we only vote into office those who hold to your highest values.
