Verse: Think not that I am come to destroy [abolish] the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy [abolish], but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot* or one tittle** [dot of the "i" or cross of the "t"] shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled [accomplished].
My wife and I recently paid a visit to a lawyer to get some legal help with regard to some real estate we own. The lawyer seemed quite efficient and told us that he would research every aspect of the matter. As we stood up to leave his office, his final statement was, "Don't worry, I will take real good care of the matter. I shall dot every 'i' and cross every 't.' " I like a person like that.
I am proud to say that our son possesses this type of meticulous correctness. When I ask him to do a job of some kind for me, I am able to forget about it completely and know that he will carry out the duties with his capable accuracy and his competent organizational skills. I know that he will dot every "i" and cross every "t."
God's Word expresses this thought in revealing that Jesus came to this earth not to abolish but to fulfill the law of the Old Testament.
Jesus fulfilled the Law during his earthly stay through his sinless, holy life and his sacrificial death. God gave us a way to inherit eternal life. Jesus Christ was our lamb that sacrificed himself on the cross. The way we can fulfill the Law is by accepting and living for the One who could fulfill it -- Jesus Christ.
