"There are 7,000...."

Object:
Elijah answered, "I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God
of hosts; for the Israelites have forsaken your covenant, thrown
down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I
alone am left, and they are seeking my life, to take it away."
Then the Lord said to him, "Go, return on your way to the
wilderness of Damascus; when you arrive, you shall anoint Hazael
as king over Aram. Also you shall anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as
king over Israel; and you shall anoint Elisha son of Shaphat of
Abel-meholah as prophet in your place. Whoever escapes from the
sword of Hazael, Jehu shall kill; and whoever escapes from the
sword of Jehu, Elisha shall kill. Yet I will leave seven thousand
in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every
mouth that has not kissed him."
-- 1 Kings 19:14-18
When was the last time the Lord abruptly interrupted your pity-party?
Elijah was a great and mighty prophet. He stood alone with the Lord against 450 prophets of Ba'al on Mount Carmel. In the end, he stood victorious. King Ahab and Queen Jezebel wanted to get rid of this "troubler of Israel." Elijah ran for his life. Leaving his servant behind, Elijah went into solitary depression (a very dangerous thing for anyone to do). Sitting under a broom tree, he lamented to God, "Take my life."
The Lord was compassionate. The Lord fed him, gave him rest, and touched him through an angel. Elijah was strengthened, but still despondent. He mourned: "I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts; for the Israelites have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are seeking my life, to take it away."
The Lord then spoke to Elijah -- not in the wind, earthquake, or fire. But in a still, small voice, defining a Holy Moment, the Lord said, "I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Ba'al, and every mouth that has not kissed him."
Elijah was not alone! There was an army of at least 7,000 who were yet faithful!
The next time you are in the midst of a pity-party, remember this passage. You are not alone. Not only is the Lord with you (Matthew 28:20), but there are yet 7,000 others also working for the King of kings. And remember the time when Elijah (with the Lord) stood alone against the 450 prophets of Ba'al at Mount Carmel. The battle is the Lord's!
Questions

3. Name at least seven people whom you know who are faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Almighty God, Gracious Lord, King of kings and Author of all hope, we praise and thank You for Your faithfulness, goodness, and mercy. Please keep coming to us, Lord. Remind us of Your promises and power. Let us never be afraid. Let us never lose hope in the midst of our self-pity. Instead, Lord, keep coming to us. Sustain us. Feed us. Speak to us through Your still, small voice and through scripture, reminding us that, indeed, Your kingdom is coming. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
