Good morning, boys and girls. Have you ever been in a really dark place? Did you think it was scary? What do you like to have with you when you know you are going into dark places? (Responses -- light, flashlight, candle, and so forth.)
We have it very easy now, don't we? We have lights most places so that we don't have to live in the dark. Even when we go camping or into strange places, we have lights we can carry in our hands like this one (produce flashlight) that we can use to light our way.
It wasn't always like that. Many years ago, people had to rely on oil lamps or candles to find their way in the dark.
In a museum in St. Augustine, Florida, there is a display which shows a Chinese man who had a hole drilled in his head so that he could place a candle there to light his way. Isn't that strange? In ancient days, people had another way of carrying light with them to light their paths. They made little candle holders that fit onto their toes. When they walked, the light from the candle shone on their path. Wasn't that a clever idea?
The psalmist, David, must have had that in mind when he wrote Psalm 119 and spoke about the Word being a lamp to light his path.
What is the Word that David referred to in that Psalm? Does anyone know? (Response -- the Bible.)
Yes, and how does the Bible become a lamp to help light the path for us? (Responses -- teaches us how to act, what to do, where to go in life, and so forth. Use these remarks to tie the principle of Bible guidance together.)
(Prayer for illumination from the Word of God.)
(Give out the tiny Bibles or Bible stickers.)
