Cards with "Footprints" poem
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you have been walking on the beach recently? I went for a walk on the beach yesterday in the soft sand. That's a lot of fun, isn't it? You can make some great patterns in the sand with your feet, can't you? I once wrote my whole name out in the sand in tiny steps. You can see where others have walked, you can find animal tracks, and you can even use your footprints to find your way back if you go into the new areas where you haven't been before.
I want to read a poem to you this morning that teaches us a good lesson about Jesus. The author of the poem is unknown. The poem is called "Footprints." (Read poem.)
What does that poem teach us about Jesus? (Responses -- mostly it should evoke the response that Jesus is always with us.)
The Bible says of Jesus in Hebrews, "He will never leave us or forsake us." And it says, "The Lord is my helper; I will never be afraid."
We ought to take confidence from the story of "Footprints" to know that even when we feel as though we are alone, Jesus is always there to help us through the bad times of life.
(Give copy of poem.)
(Prayer of thanksgiving to God for the supporting arms of Jesus.)
