Good morning, boys and girls. I want you to help me sing a song today. It is one of the first songs I ever learned, and it is a song that I believe everybody in this congregation knows. Do you know what song we're going to sing together? (Responses -- Many may be good and/or familiar, but when you get "Jesus Loves Me"...) That's the one! (Sing the song together.)
Do you know that we rarely sing that song in a church worship service? Because it's a simple little song known by everyone and sung by children in Sunday School, I guess we have come to think of ourselves as too sophisticated or grown up to sing a little song like that. But I like it!
Do you know why I like that song so much? (Response.) There are many reasons to like the song "Jesus Loves Me," but the reason I like it so well is because of the story it tells me.
I need to be reminded all the time that Jesus loves me, and of where I can go to read about how much He does. Where do you learn about how much Jesus loves me? (Response -- Bible.)
Do you read about how much He loves you? Do you think we could get all the people, old and young, big and small, to join us in singing the song one more time? (All congregation sings.)
(Give out "Jesus Loves Me" memento.)
(Prayer: Lord, help us to know that you love us, even those times that we feel most unlovely.)
