Children's Sermons
Object:
A milk carton, a bottle of juice, a container of water, and a bottle of soda (with the soda removed and a like-colored water replacing it).
Message: I want you to try to imagine yourself on a hot day. I don't mean a day that is kind of hot. I mean a day that is scorching hot, so hot that you can hardly stand to be outside! What would you do to cool off on that kind of day? I might go for a swim. You might go inside where it is air conditioned. And you would probably be getting so thirsty that you would get something to drink.
What are your favorite things to drink when you are that hot? How many of you like milk? How many would get a big glass of water with lots of ice in it? How many would rather have a glass of your favorite kind of juice? And how many would probably choose to have soda? My choice would be the soda!
I have a bottle of soda here this morning. Before I open it up, I want to ask you a question. Do you know what happens when you shake soda up like this? That's right! It fizzes, it leaks out of the top, and if you shake it enough, it might even explode! (Shake the bottle.) I fooled you because this is only water. But if it were soda, and I did shake it, could I change my mind afterwards and hope that it wouldn't explode when I opened it? No way! Once it is shaken, you better watch out!
Did you know God wants us to be that excited about sharing the news about Jesus with people around us? He wants us to be exploding with news about how much He loves us. That is what Jesus meant when He said to the disciples, "Go to the whole world!" And the best way to do that is to start now. I want you children to stand up with me and say to everyone here, "Jesus loves you!" That was great. Now I want all of you in the congregation to respond by saying, "Jesus loves you too!" We are the messengers God has chosen to bring the news about Jesus to the world.
