Made For Something Good

Matthew To Revelation
Object: something handcrafted, like a dress, a piece of woodworking, or some pottery
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you like to work with your hands and make things to use at home or in school? (let them answer) Some boys and girls used to make pencil holders for me so that I would have a place to keep my pencils on my desk. There are other things that people make that take a lot of work, but they really feel good when they are finished with them. I brought a dress with me that one of the women in our congregation made on her sewing machine. I also have a small stool that one of the men made in his workshop. These are not things that were bought in a store, but things that people made with their own hands at home. It makes you feel good to make something that you can use or wear.
Those are some of the things we can make. Did you ever think of some of the things that God has made that are for the good of everyone? Tell me something that you think God made. (let them answer) You are so right. He did make the trees, the grass, the sky, and the oceans.
Did you know that he also made you and me and all of the other people in the world? He did. Do you know why he made us? (let them answer) Those are good reasons. Let me tell you one other reason why God made us. He made us to do good things for each other. That's right. When God made us, he made us so that we could help each other and do good things for everything that lives on his earth.
That is why God made us. He made us in such a way that we can help each other have fun. He made us so that we can help each other when one of us is sad or hurt. He made us so that we can help each other build places to live, schools where we can learn, and churches where we can worship.
God made us do good things. We can make things like dresses, stools, and vases. That is important and it makes us feel good to do them. God made us the same way that we make things. We make things to do good, and God made us to do good. It is a wonderful plan and one that we should remember always. The next time you make something with your hands, maybe you will think about the way God made you to do good for others as well as yourself.
