Epiphany 7
Poems
A GOSPEL TREASURY
Poems Based on Lectionary Gospels
Four men came to Jesus,
came bringing a friend
who was paralyzed. He could not walk.
But they could not come close for
so great was the crowd
who were gathered there hearing him talk.
So the friends, getting desperate,
went to the roof
where they opened a hole overhead.
Then, attaching some ropes
to the mat where he lay,
they let down their friend on his bed.
When the Lord saw the faith
that their actions portrayed,
he took pity upon the poor soul.
He forgave him his sins
and then bade him arise,
in both body and spirit made whole.
As I read, I remember
how many poor souls
I have known who had just such a need
for such friends as were there
who would work to be sure
he was brought to the Lord to be freed.
And one last little note
as I think once again
how this paralyzed man was restored:
What a love those friends had
to be raising the roof
to be sure that their friend met the Lord!
