GERRIE: (CARRYING BOOKS AND A BIBLE) I can hardly wait for the Bible study. I want to get there early.
TOMMIE: (CARRYING BOOKS AND A RECENT NEWSPAPER) We can get there early if you don't mind eating leftovers.
GERRIE: I don't care what I eat.
TOMMIE: Spaghetti?
GERRIE: I just want to get there early so I can ask Bob some questions.
TOMMIE: I like Bob's teaching. He can probably answer your questions.
GERRIE: I just want to learn all I can about the Bible so I can know Jesus better.
TOMMIE: You are enjoying your new life, aren't you?
GERRIE: I sure am. Knowing Jesus is wonderful. I just wish I had done it sooner. It sure would have saved me a lot of heartaches.
TOMMIE: I know exactly what you mean.
TODD: (ENTERS) Hi, Gerrie. How are your classes?
GERRIE: They're going pretty well. Hey, Todd, you really need Jesus in your life.
TODD: What?
GERRIE: I said, you really need to take Jesus into your heart.
TODD: Uh, well, no, I don't think so.
GERRIE: Hey, what are you doing tonight? You need to go to this Bible study that we go to. You need Jesus as your Savior.
TODD: Gee, I'm going to be late for class. See ya. (HE EXITS)
GERRIE: Golly, I wonder what's wrong. Out of the seven people I spoke to this morning about having Jesus in their lives, no one has said yes. Do you think it's my breath?
TOMMIE: No, your breath is okay. It's your technique that isn't. It's about as subtle as an elephant tango.
GERRIE: But these people need Jesus.
TOMMIE: Of course they do. Everyone does. But hitting them over the head with the Bible and kicking them in the face with their sins is not the way to do it.
GERRIE: I'll bet you I'll get someone to accept Jesus by the end of the day.
TOMMIE: You know what? You just might at that. You might just stumble into something that the Holy Spirit is doing.
GERRIE: Well, then, when I do you'll have to agree my technique works.
TOMMIE: Look, Gerrie, there is a better way.
GERRIE: But Jesus told us to evangelize the whole world.
TOMMIE: Yes, He did.
GERRIE: Well? How many people have you brought to Jesus today?
TOMMIE: None that I know about.
GERRIE: You see. You're disobeying a direct order from our Lord. And by the way, how many minutes a day do you spend in your quiet time?
TOMMIE: About fifteen minutes.
GERRIE: Did you know Jesus got up early most mornings before dawn and went off by himself to pray? That's why He had such power in his life. And Bob said Jesus is supposed to be our model for this life. He said whatever Jesus could do we can do. Isn't that right?
TOMMIE: Well, in a way that is right.
GERRIE: Okay, good. Now, I have a plan that will be good for both of us. We'll get up an hour earlier than we do now so that we can have our quiet time together and then we'll do some street witnessing after dinner. I think two nights a week down on Main Street will ...
TOMMIE: Whoa, whoa. Not so fast. There's one person you're forgetting.
GERRIE: Someone I forgot? Who?
TOMMIE: Who? The Holy Spirit, that's who.
GERRIE: The Holy Spirit? What does He do?
TOMMIE: He will guide you in everything.
GERRIE: Everything?
TOMMIE: Jesus had the power of the Holy Spirit in His life. He only did what the Holy Spirit told him to do. Jesus said the Holy Spirit will teach us all things. That must mean we are supposed to ask Him about all things.
GERRIE: Do you mean I should ask the Holy Spirit who I should witness to?
TOMMIE: Sure, the Holy Spirit knows what He wants accomplished and He knows best how to do it. He is God. You can really conserve your energy by asking Him what to do. The way you're going about it, you'll burn out in a couple of weeks and get discouraged. I'll tell you what we can do. We can pray together for the people you want to witness to and ask the Holy Spirit to arrange the proper time to do it.
GERRIE: All right. We'll do it your way.
TOMMIE: I think you'll find it more effective.
GERRIE: Maybe, but what about the three people that I asked who are already coming to the Bible study tonight ? What should I tell them? (THEY BOTH LAUGH AND EXIT)
Follow Jesus.
