"Pastor," he had said, "I think I should be teaching that Sunday school class."
These were the words of a businessman, who a year earlier had been challenged to teach a class for young adults. He said then that he would have to study the Bible first.
We shared with him some Bible outlines, which covered the entire Bible in a book-by-book study we had been using with older adults. He promised to use them in preparation.
I had nearly forgotten about it when Bob Ash came to me in my pastor's study at the church. It was a real joy to hear him tell what that year of living with the Bible meant to him.
Mr. Ash had become the teacher of the Young Adult bible class at Trinity United Methodist Church in Delphos, Ohio. He taught effectively until his untimely death four years later.
But, oh, the joy of a year of studying the Bible with a definite purpose.
