The greatest sorrow is to have no cause, no work, no sacrifice for which to live. One is alive, but lives only for himself. Just standing around, twiddling his thumbs, absorbed with his own personal trivia - this is no life at all! And our text introduces us to such a crowd of people as represents many in our generation. They were "standing idle in the marketplace."
