Fifth Sunday After Epiphany
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: True Wisdom Of God
Call To Worship
To worship is to think God's thoughts after him; to open the windows of the soul to the cool winds of the Spirit; to recognize a dimension of existence which transcends the world we touch and see; to sensitize our wills to the fruitful plan God has for our lives. Come, let us worship!
Invocation
Our Father, as we come to worship, we ask for both holy boldness and genuine humility.
Make us confident to approach your presence, knowing that you love your children and have invited us to share all good things.
At the same time, may we come with a humble spirit, knowing that as your children we can request but we cannot demand; we can ask but cannot order; we can pray but dare not require. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, we pray. Amen.
Confession
O Lord our God, we are aware of your wisdom, majesty, and power, and yet when the going gets rough we are tempted to go it alone, relying on our own strength and power. Forgive us, God, and give us the courage to trust in you, to follow your way. Free us from our fears by the power of your love. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Lord, it is our prayer that these gifts will make a difference: that because of our generosity lives will be changed, souls will be saved, bodies will be fed, living conditions will be improved, and minds will be enlightened. Amen.
Hymns
"Wellspring Of Wisdom"
"Ask Ye What Great Thing I Know"
"O Spirit Of The Living God"
