Lectionary Worship Aids
Series V, Cycle A
First Lesson: Genesis 29:15-28
Theme: Apprentice
Call To Worship
Leader: Remember that God still guides us today. God always finds new ways of shedding light on our paths. We rejoice in an ever-present, ever-creating, and ever-sustaining God.
People: Praise be to God.
Collect
God of purpose, God of design, God who knows the way: We come with open hearts ready to hear your word. We come as students of faith. We come as your disciples. Through Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
What unexpected apprenticeships we find ourselves serving, dear God. As you enabled Jacob to be constant, strengthen us as you work out your purpose for us. Despite unsavory or disreputable designs of others, help us to proceed with your plans in a single-minded posture. In the name of Christ. Amen.

People: We are convinced. Praise be to our merciful and compassionate God.

Thou, who answers our sighs with your own,
Thou, who searches our hearts and knows what is on our minds,
Thou, who is for us and assures us that all things work together for good,
Thou.
Prayer Of Confession
So convincing is your compassion, that our questions melt. So close you are, O God, that we need not speak. So comforting is your presence, that our hearts grow still and know that you are God. Amen.

Proper 12
Sunday between July 24 and July 30 inclusive
Gospel: Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52
Theme: Most Important
Call To Worship
Leader: Good things may come in small packets:
People: Seeds, seeds, and more seeds.
Leader: A little stretches and stretches:
People: Seeds, seeds, and more seeds.
Leader: What surprise and mystery one seed holds as we await its germination:
All: The kingdom of God is like the tiny mustard seed that someone took and sowed in a field.
Collect
How mysteriously you work, O God, to show us that as precious as is the smallest seed, it is nothing unless we take it in hand and plant it. We promise to pay attention to the tiniest seeds of hope in our relationships. We vow to do our part in giving them a chance to sprout. We will keep ourselves open to greet the surprises of the realm of God. In the name of Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God of the mustard seed and a few grains of yeast, we succumb to thinking greedily about quantity when even the smallest bit used in faith yields a fine result. Remind us to live wholeheartedly by treasuring what we have. Remind us to use what is available with faith and a clear mission so we might experience better your realm. Through Jesus the Christ. Amen.
47A Hymns
"God Moves In A Mysterious Way" Tune: DUNDEE
"[God][Lord], Speak To Me, That I May Speak" Tune: CANONBURY
"We Would Be Building" Tune: FINLANDIA
