LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series III
* CALL TO WORSHIP
Ascribe to the Anointed the glory due to Christ's name; bow down
to the Messiah in the splendor of holiness.
* PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Creator of what is good, Christ for sinners, Spirit of
restoration, we require the baptism of repentance but might not
be ready to confess it except that your obedient Son, Jesus,
identified himself with us in our sins and showed us your
gracious forgiveness signified in the cleansing and refreshing
waters of our baptism. Forgive any lack of candidness in our
confessions. We need to learn more thorough-going honesty before
you, ALL-TRUTH, ALL-LEARNING, ALL-LIFE. Amen.
* DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! The Holy Spirit is given to us as we put our
trust in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior. Friends, believe
the Good News! In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
* EXHORTATION
Make your own preparations for the coming of Christ and be ready
to give a royal welcome at the return of the Scion of heaven and
earth.
* PRAYER OF THE DAY
Exalted Parent, as you acknowledged your beloved Son, Jesus, so
graciously adopt us as your children being pleased in what your
Spirit will yet accomplish in making us more like him to the
glory of our family name in Christ. Amen.
* PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Eternal Sovereign, Thunderous Voice, Peace-giving Spirit, we hear
the echo of your voice in the majesty of your Creation and the
sob of your grief in what we have thoughtlessly despoiled. Let
our thanksgiving be not only the praise we can give to the beauty
of what you created but the activities we undertake to restore
what has been uglified by rapacity and waste. In the restoration
of what has been spoiled may we sense the presence of the Spirit
of peace and joy. Amen.
* PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Powerful Creator, Humble Savior, Renewing Spirit, renew in us the
generous nature which is your image in which we were created in
the beginning that the beauty of the world and the order of
church may be advanced in every generation. Amen.
* PSALM 29:1-11
Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings,
ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory of his name;
worship the LORD in holy splendor.
The voice of the LORD is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders, the LORD, over mighty waters.
The voice of the LORD is powerful;
the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars;
the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon skip like a calf,
and Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of the LORD flashes forth flames of fire.
The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness;
the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
The voice of the LORD causes the oaks to whirl,
and strips the forest bare;
and in his temple all say, "Glory!"
The LORD sits enthroned over the flood;
the LORD sits enthroned as king forever.
May the LORD give strength to his people!
May the LORD bless his people with peace!
Ascribe to the Anointed the glory due to Christ's name; bow down
to the Messiah in the splendor of holiness.
