Series III, Cycle A
CALL TO WORSHIP
Let love for our community breed warmth of mutual affection. With unflagging energy, in ardor of spirit, serve the Lord. Persist in prayer.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Thoughtful God, we confess that our thoughts are too content with easy ways and the avoidance of suffering. Though you anoint your people to the stresses of leadership we prefer the safety of obscurity. You sanctify us as prayerful priests to intercede for the whole world. Too often we pray only for ourselves and not for the nations around your globe. Forgive us for the sake of the cross-hearing Christ. Amen.
DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News. The Lord will redeem us and show us his favor. Friends, believe the Good News. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
EXHORTATION
Adapt yourselves no longer to the pattern of this present world, but let your minds be remade and your whole nature thus transformed. Then you will be able to discern the will of God.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
God of the gospel, Leader of disciples, Spirit of divinity and humanity, plant the cross in our hearts, that our worldly seWshness may die and our true self be raised from death to heavenward life. Amen.
PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Faith-giving God, Body-shaping Christ, Nature-transforming Spirit, we love the beauty of the body of Christ being transformed from the uncoordinated movements of worldly behavior to the choreography of obedience to your will. We listen with eagerness to gifted voices that speak your gracious word. We work enthusiastically with others who also seek to serve you and who call out the best gifts we have been given. We worship you with mind and body, as in Jesus Christ you have revealed your grace in his mind and body. We believe; we will obey; we are being changed thanks to you, loving God. Amen.
PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Uniting Christ, gather the varied personal gifts we bring into a functioning body with grace and accomplishments acceptable to you. Amen.
PSALM 105:1-6, 23-26, 45c
O give thanks to the LORD, call on his name,
make known his deeds among the peoples.
Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell of all his wonderful works.
Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
Seek the LORD and his strength;
seek his presence continually.
Remember the wonderful works he has done,
his miracles, and the judgments he uttered,
O offspring of his servant Abraham,
children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
Then Israel came to Egypt;
Jacob lived as an alien in the land of Ham.
And the LORD made his people very fruitful,
and made them stronger than their foes,
whose hearts he then turned to hate his people,
to deal craftily with his servants.
He sent his servant Moses,
and Aaron whom he had chosen.
Praise the LORD!
