Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who have known life's hard times seek shelter in the Lord!
People: Sorrow is no stranger to the camp of those who follow Christ.
Leader: Even Jesus knew the pain of seeing loved ones in sorrow.
People: And Christ knew the sorrow of our rejection as He died upon the cross.
Leader: Yet for our sake Christ never turned away that we might be saved.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O loving and merciful God, we are so grateful You have chosen to hear the cries of those in sorrow and pain and have promised to be their strength and comfort. Thank You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often in the hard times when sorrow would try to overwhelm us, we have closed our hearts to You in anger that bad things have happened to us. Too often, Lord, we have even allowed our anger to cause us to speak against You as if You did not care about our sorrows and woes. Forgive us, Lord, and restore our faith, that we might proclaim Your love to all. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"At Calvary"
"It Is Well With My Soul"
"Tell It To Jesus"
Proper 14
Sunday between August 7 and August 13 inclusive
Second Lesson: Ephesians 4:25-5:2
Theme: Building honest mature relationships
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us enter the house of the Lord seeking God's will for our lives!
People: Can we let God's will settle all of the disputes we may be having?
Leader: The Lord has called us to be honest, mature, and quick to forgive.
People: Even if the other person is wrong and worthy of our anger?
Leader: We are to forgive and accept others as God has forgiven and accepted us.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, we are truly honored and blessed that You have called us to be a part of Your community of faith in today's world. Lord, help us to live with maturity and honesty in all we do. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, sometimes we have acted more like undisciplined children, full of bickering and seeking power and importance, rather than the believers You have called us to be in today's world. Too often we have even let our petty goals come before Your plans for our church communities and our personal lives. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to be witnesses for You. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Truehearted, Wholehearted"
"Beneath The Cross Of Jesus"
"I Have Decided To Follow Jesus"
Proper 14
Sunday between August 7 and August 13 inclusive
Gospel: John 6:35, 41-51
Theme: Jesus, the bread of life
Call To Worship
Leader: All who wait upon the Lord shall be fed and cared for!
People: But the crops are small and the rivers are almost dry.
Leader: Let your eyes see the truth: we do not live by bread alone.
People: Then what will sustain us and keep us from surely perishing?
Leader: The Living Bread given to us through the cross and the love of Christ.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and gracious God, when You led Your children out of Egyptian bondage, You provided for them even when their faith was weak. Lord, please continue to provide for us as we serve You. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, how often in our blindness we have failed to see Your love. How many times we have looked past the wonders You have made and seen only problems and faults around us. How often we have missed the very blessings You meant for us to receive so that our lives in turn might also be blessings. Forgive us, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"It Is No Secret What God Can Do"
"God Will Take Care Of You"
