Lectionary Worship Aids
Series V, Cycle B
First Lesson: 2 Samuel 11:26--12:13a
Theme: Confront
Call To Worship
Leader: When we do inexcusable things that bring hurt to others, we deserve like treatment. However, when we face the truth, see ourselves as we really are, and regret our actions, God offers not an eye for an eye but forgiveness.
People: No matter who we are, we are accountable for our actions. No matter who we are, when we accept responsibility for our failures, God forgives us and we are free to try again.
Collect
We gather as imperfect people, O God, asking for the courage to see where we are failing to live as your loving people and for the valor to change our ways. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Can you forgive us, God, for living such faulty lives? We recognize and deplore the wrong things others do but fail to see that we are guilty of equal defects in caring. Confront us with the truth. Set our lives on a new track. For the sake of Christ. Amen.
48B Hymns1
"All People That On Earth Do Dwell" Tune: OLD HUNDREDTH
"Come [Down][Forth], O Love Divine" Tune: DOWN AMPNEY
"Take My Life, O Lord, Renew" Tune: PATMOS or "Take My Life And Let It Be" Tune: MESSIAH

Second Lesson: Ephesians 4:1-16
Theme: Growing Up
Call To Worship
We are a church composed of an abundant mixture of people with many levels of spiritual maturity. Hear the challenge to be the church listening and speaking to each other in a manner that champions each of us and encourages a graceful way of being the church together.
Collect
In response to your generosity, O God, we hope to lead lives worthy of our calling. In reply to your calling for a sense of oneness in your church, we reach toward a goal of unity of faith. Through your Spirit. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We recognize, gracious God, that the maturing of our spiritual nature is an ongoing process of growth. We ask for courage and strength as we move from being vulnerable children in the faith toward adults who are able to speak the truth in love and to hear truth spoken in love. In the name of Christ. Amen.

"With The Lord Begin Your Task" Tune: FANG DEIN WERK
"We Thank You God For Prayer" Tune: BOYLSTON or TAFT STREET

Gospel: John 6:24-35
Theme: Bread Of Life
Call To Worship
Jesus is the bread of life. Whoever comes to Jesus will no longer be hungry. Whoever believes in Christ will no longer be thirsty. Let us renew our faith in Christ, that the belly of the soul might be filled. Come, let us approach God with hopeful hearts.
Collect
Great Sustainer, who gives life to this world, who sees that we have food for the body, who opens the way to nourishing the spirit, we give you thanks. We receive your life-sustaining gifts as we receive your gift of Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We become so engrossed in pursuing the work that supplies nourishment for the body that we neglect putting energy into finding spiritual food that endures. Encourage us, O God, to create spaces in our everyday work so we might quiet the gnawing in the soul. In the name of Christ. Amen.
