Call To Worship
Leader: Day-birthing sun startles wind into unsettled gusts then, up, stands suspended. Silent, full power surveys possibility.
People: We have come for morning has broken. We have come to survey what is possible today. We are here to worship God.
Collect
We overcame the temptation to spend extra time in bed. We arose to greet your new day, O thou ever-creating God. Sunrise radiance always surprises us. This Sunday of Epiphany has begun. We give you thanks and praise your holy name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Gracious God, we would do more than mark off this day on a calendar. Let us circle it and enjoy it. We would do more than yawn tentatively at the morning. Filled with expectation, let us come to the mystery of another day of life. In the name of your rising son, Jesus. Amen.
08B Hymns
"Morning Has Broken" Tune: BUNESSAN
"Faithful God, You Have Been Our Guide" Tune: LINSTEAD
"When Morning Gilds The Skies" Tune: LAUDES DOMINI
Epiphany Of Our Lord
Second Lesson: Ephesians 3:1-12
Theme: Epiphany
Call To Worship
If we knew all the answers, we would not be drawn again and again toward the divine mystery of God's coming among us. We arrive this Epiphany Sunday filled with readiness. We want to discover anew the presence of God.
Collect
We answer mystery with hope. We regard the puzzles of your plans for us with curiosity. We approach you, O God, with a renewed sense of wonder at the birth and life of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Gracious God, give us the boldness to avoid explaining away too much. Give us the courage to escape discarding your mysteries because of our skepticism. Amen.
08B Hymns
"Brightest And Best" Tune: MORNING STAR
"Immortal Love, Forever Full" Tune: SERENITY
"Lord, Dismiss Us With Your Blessing" Tune: REGENT SQUARE or SICILIAN MARINERS
Epiphany Of Our Lord
Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12
Theme: "Who Receives Your Fidelity?"
Call To Worship
The wise persons from the East brought far more than gold, myrrh, and frankincense to the Christ Child. Seeing through the schemes of King Herod, they held firm to their newly found allegiance and were loyal to the holy family. Let us consider on this Sunday of Epiphany what gifts we can bring to God.
Collect
The greatest offering we can bring to you, O God, in return for your gift of the Christ Child is to live decent, acceptable lives. We come to you today offering you the best that is within us. For the sake of Jesus. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Help us, O God of the faithful, to protect the faith by being people of integrity. Guide us with the illumination of your presence to recognize and overcome our negative dimensions. Aid our efforts to focus on what is right and what is good. Amen.
08B Hymns
"Go Tell It On The Mountain" Tune: GO TELL IT
"Who Would Think That What Was Needed" Tune: SCARLET RIBBONS
"In The Bleak Midwinter" Tune: CRANHAM
