I made a mistake, Phil...

"I made a mistake," Phil admitted to his pastor describing how a bad choice made some years before led to nothing but trouble. His problems escalated until he reached the point where, in his own words, he could barely keep his head above water.
Over and over he repeated "if only" he had listened to his friends, coworkers, even his parents. But he was headstrong and stubborn. He thought he knew what was best for him as well as what he was doing. However, his way would lead to all kinds of trouble, participating in activities that he knew were wrong. He became addicted and enmeshed in darkness. For a while, it appeared to Phil that there was no way out of his predicament. It was then that he remembered going to church as a youngster and that Jesus loved him.
The church had never been a priority for him. He went to church and sat for an hour in the sanctuary focusing on the cross. The wooden cross struck him that even though he felt unloved that God loved him enough to send Jesus. For the first time in a long while Phil saw a way out of his problems. He trusted God knowing that God loved him.
