The need to be self...

The need to be self-sufficient and able to make right decisions is deeply imbedded in the human soul. Somehow people get so involved in their own egos that they lose sight of the source of their life. Sometimes whole nations fall prey to this very human weakness.
The knowledge of God is, as Hosea has said, much more important than any feeble accomplishments we as human beings can offer to God. When we forget that God created us for God's good purposes we begin to act like we were created to please ourselves!
"Warty the Toad in Don Marquis' Archy and Mehitabel thought the world was made to take care of him and to give him pleasure. The world had finally produced a toadstool under which he could sit in comfort and ease. In a burst of confidence he says, 'What has the universe ever done to deserve me?' I grant you that this is extreme, but there are people almost like that." -- The Late Bishop Bruce Baxter.
Hosea was called to remind God's people that the toadstool they were living under was created by God. They had forgotten and had come to believe that they, not God had created. Knowing God and living within the confines of God's grace allows toads and people to know that the God who built the Toadstool also built us.
