David Livingstone, working his way...

David Livingstone, working his way through the swamps of Africa, began to worry about how to cross a certain stream the next day. He knew that to cross that stream meant almost certain death. At the age of 42 he wrote one night in his journal:
Felt much turmoil of spirit in view of having all my plans for this great region and teeming population knocked in the head by savages tomorrow. But I read that Jesus came and said, "All power is given unto me in heaven and earth; go and teach all nations, and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." It is the word of a gentleman of the most sacred and strictest honor, and there's an end on't. I will not cross furtively by night, as I had intended. It would appear as flight, and should such a man as I flee?
Livingstone knew, and lived out his ministry with an inner security prompted by the Holy Spirit which reminded him in time of trial of the wonderful treasure of the gospel. The gospel stabilizes. It fortifies. It gives light in our darkness. It brings a calmness in every storm.
