On this Christmas day the voice of the prince of prophets, Isaiah, trumpets the arrival of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.
At Christmas we join with Christians of every race and clime in sharing the "glad tidings of good things" with others. Our feet will be blessed as we visit nursing homes; our arms will be blessed as we embrace those who grieve in funeral homes. Our heads will be blessed as we study the Word of God; our eyes will be filled with the wondrous beauty of this Christmastide as we rejoice in the gifts of love we share with our friends and family.
An old hymn by George Weissel translated by Catherine Winkworth bids us all to open our hearts' gates at this season to let the dear Christ in:
Lift up your heads, ye mighty gates,
Behold the King of Glory waits;
The King of kings is drawing near;
The Saviour of the world is here;
Redeemer come I open wide
My heart to Thee; here Lord abide.
Let me thy inner presence feel;
Thy grace and love in me reveal.
