I vividly remember, as a boy, standing outside the large display windows of the automobile dealers when the new cars were about to be shown.
For a couple of weeks, the brand new models were actually in the showrooms but were completely covered with large khaki-colored sheets. Both children and adults would try to imagine the shapes of the cars, the grills, the styles of fenders, headlights, etc. There was also exciting speculation about new pastel colors and combinations of two-tone paintings. The abundance of chrome was another major discussion point.
The presence of these hidden cars made the anticipation of "unveiling day" grow in intensity and, when the time arrived, the showroom was flooded with curious visitors.
Paul sees the glory of God in the Old Testament as hidden, like those new cars, and he says it never did get the veils removed. Christ, on the other hand, has unveiled God's glory and only through him can we truly appreciate the true image of God's love and grandeur.
Jesus is the zealous teacher and redeemer, who at the zenith of this giving love, was completely unveiled --stripped of his garments, and emptied of his blood and life.
If the Old Testament hid God's endearing love, the New Testament, through Jesus, makes it abundantly clear.
