In an age where Do...

In an age where "Do your own thing" is a popular slogan, I believe we need to recognize that reaching a consensus, among a group of people, often results in finding the truth better than our individual wisdom.
This has been shown in a popular exercise in reaching a consensus. The first third of the film, Twelve Angry Men, is shown to a group. Then, the film is stopped and the group is told that, while this jury is now divided 11-1 for a guilty verdict in the balance of the film, each of the eleven will change his vote until the jury is unanimous for acquittal. Now the viewers are asked to record on paper the order that the jurors will decide to change.
The group is given an opportunity to discuss the film and arrive at a consensus on the order in which the jurors will change. They must work for consensus by voting --coercion is not permitted.
In every group taking part in this exercise, the final consensus of the group is closer to the order of change portrayed in the balance of the film than the average of the individual responses.
Paul decided to go to Macedonia by consensus; between himself and God.
