The Old Testament ends on...

The Old Testament ends on a powerful promise that God would send his Messiah to redeem mankind from the grip of sin, death, and the devil. We see that promise fulfilled in the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
The fulfillment of that promise helps us anticipate the fulfillment of the final promise of the New Testament -- that Jesus, the Messiah, will return in glory. We know he is coming even though we do not know when. There are and have been many students of Scripture who believe they have pinpointed the exact day and hour of Christ's return.
One example took place in 1844 when a group of Christians, led by William Miller, gathered on a hillside in New England to wait for the return of Christ. Miller had convinced himself and many others that he knew the exact time. So they dressed in nothing but white robes and stood on top of that hill for quite some time in the freezing weather. The appointed time came and went, but the Lord did not come as Miller had predicted. Miller walked from that hill with a red face of embarrassment.
