Dr. E. Stanley Jones tells the story of a boy who was sent to the United States to go to school, while his parents worked as missionaries in a foreign country. One day the school principal visited the young lad in his room and asked, "What would you like to have most of all?"
Looking at a picture of his father on his desk, the boy replied, "I would like to have my father step out of that picture." He missed his parents very much, especially his father, and he longed for their companionship again.
When Jesus came to the world, it was as though he had stepped out of a framed picture and become real for all those who had anticipated his coming. They had formed a picture of the long promised Messiah, based on the words of the prophets.
Today we long for the day when Christ will return to receive us into his eternal kingdom. We wait in faith and hope for that day when his promised coming will be a reality.
