Only gradually did she realize...

Only gradually did she realize the gift was for her. At first it didn't seem like a gift at all, just a box somebody had tucked inexplicably inside her screen door. A couple of neighbor boys had been playing tricks on her, and she thought this was one more instance.
As she lifted the box, though, something caught her eye. A bit of red glistened under one of the cardboard flaps. The box felt uncommonly light. Curious now, she carried the package back inside to the table where she had just finished breakfast. She bent back the flaps and pulled out a large red envelope with her name, "Alice," written neatly across the cover. Half excited, half fearing a prank, she opened the envelope and pulled out a round trip airplane ticket for one to California. Attached was a simple note. "We hope you have a good time at your grandson's graduation. We love you." It was signed "Your friends."
Alice sat down at the table. She still only half believed. She had to tell herself over and over again, "It's true! It's true!"
The greatest good news takes time to dawn upon us. The greatest joys overwhelm us. It takes time for our minds and spirits to catch up with reality.
And how much more this is true for the resurrection. "What's this? ... It's terribly strange ... Do I dare believe? ... Master! ... It's true! It's true!"
