I have a very good friend who was "born out of wedlock." He was born in the early fifties, when such arrangements were much less understood and accepted than today. His mother said she would tell him who his father was, if he would ever ask. It had been a loving relationship which conceived the child, but an impossible situation to pursue a marriage.
My good friend did not ask until he was almost thirty years old. He had his own reasons for waiting. When he finally did hear the name, he said he always "just kind of knew." (It was a man he had seen a few times in his life.)
Even though we have not seen and touched him physically, we who are in Christ "somehow know" that we belong to him who is not only our eternal Father, but the Great King who can give us all good things.
