It is a sad story...

It is a sad story, but one which has been repeated many times in the cities of our land. A fine church stood near the center of the city, filled with many active members. But, as the city grew, many of the members moved farther away from their church. They continued for a time to return to worship in their church building as the neighborhood changed in nature around it. Although there were voices that proposed that the ministry of that church change in nature to better meet the needs of the new neighbors around it, the members voted to "keep things just like they are." Eventually many of the members found church homes nearer to the places where they now lived and only a few continued to worship in the big old church. The neighborhood no longer acknowledged the church as belonging to it, and the church members no longer espoused the neighborhood as "theirs." The stones may still be standing, but the temple has fallen.
