Back in 1948 Cleveland Indians' fan Joe Earley became concerned that too many perks were being showered on the Cleveland Indians and not enough appreciation was being expressed to the thousands who regularly supported the team. His concern was heard.
That year the organization sponsored a Joe Earley Day and since then his name has been a symbol of the unsung thousands who yearly support the Indians. These thousands are the "bone and flesh" behind the ball club.
