Hebrews states that we can come with hearts purified from a guilty conscience. Let us look at two quite different people as they experienced this.
Sir James Simpson discovered chloroform in 1864 when he was 35 years old. Later Simpson was asked, "Do you think anyone has ever made a greater discovery than chloroform?" Simpson replied, "Yes, I have made a greater discovery myself." Simpson was asked, "Really? What was that?" and he replied, "The discovery that Jesus Christ was my own Savior." It was only when he was 50 that Simpson discovered the significance of Jesus and he regretted that that had not happened sooner.
At one time if a person had mentioned the name of J.C. Sullivan to most police officers they would have said he is one of the best getaway drivers of his time. He worked with John Dillinger and Bonnie and Clyde and might have been killed with them, but both times he was in a federal prison. Before WWII Sullivan was converted. He repaid every person he had robbed and most of them became Christians. J.C. died September 5, 1975, but before that he had spoken in many churches and prisons. In fact, he won over 10,000 prisoners to Christ. He might not have been able to do that if he had not earlier wasted his life.
