The novel Shoeless Joe...

The novel Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella is about Shoeless Joe Jackson, one of eight White Sox players convicted of throwing the World Series in the Black Sox scandal of 1919. Kinsella makes Joe a central figure in employing the game of baseball as a metaphor for the need to hold onto something in a faithless age.
