My first recollections of Martin...

My first recollections of Martin Luther King, Jr., go back to my elementary school years. For some reason, I was in the habit of watching the television news before catching the school bus.
With great frequency, the camera would catch images of this black man either being arrested and put in jail or being released from jail, only to be put back in jail a few days later. At his arrests, he seemed polite and well-dressed. On his release, he looked tired and unshaven. The police and city officials seemed frustrated at how to handle him.
I remember asking adults questions they had trouble answering. What law did he break? Why was that so wrong? Why doesn't he quit doing what he is doing so that they will quit putting him in jail? Why did he seem so calm when everyone else in the picture seems so angry?
Although I suspect it more by a "gut feeling" than a reasoned conclusion, I came to understand Martin Luther King was in a circumstance not unlike the apostles. The authorities kept putting him in jail. He kept getting out and showing up to preach the truth --which kept the people stirred up, which motivated the authorities to put him back in jail.
