Jesus offered --offers --peace, like a bridge over troubled waters. On May 24, 1883, a wonderful new bridge opened --the Brooklyn Bridge.
On May 24, 1625, Peter Minuit bought Manhattan from some Indians for about $24 worth of goods. I wonder if we could sell it back.
On May 24, 1738, John Wesley went to an informal Moravian meeting where Luther's writing was being read. In his journal, Wesley wrote, "In the evening, I went very unwillingly to a society in Aldersgate Street (London), where one was reading Luther's Preface to the Epistle to the Romans. About a quarter before nine, while he was describing the change which God works in the heart through faith in Christ, I felt my heart strangely warmed. I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone for salvation; and an assurance was given me that he had taken away my sins, even mine, and saved me from the law of sin and death."
How do we become recipients of peace? Hans J. Eysenck, Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of London's Institute of Psychiatry declared that Freud never followed up to see if what he claimed successful was in fact successful. (Sounds like faith healers.) Eysenck said that the Wolfman claimed to have been cured was interviewed in Vienna. The Wolfman at 90 was suffering from the same symptoms Freud had supposedly removed and noted that he had been treated throughout his life for the things Freud said he was cured of.
