An old whaling captain tells of one morning when he had been sailing into strong winds and making little headway. He decided to change his course since there must be as many whales to the north as to the south. An hour later he saw four lifeboats containing the 14 survivors of a shipwreck. As he rescued them, they told him that they had been afloat for 10 days and could not have lived much longer.
The old whaler said, "I am convinced God put that idea into my mind to change the course of my ship. You see, I begin every day of my life with a prayer that God will use me to help someone else --and he does!"
Immediately after Jesus gave the words which we call The Lord's Prayer, he emphasized the concerns Christians ought to have for others. Through prayer, God reveals his will to us and places his thoughts into our minds.
