One day Dr. Norman Vincent...

One day Dr. Norman Vincent Peale walked through the streets of Hong Kong. (Norman Vincent Peale, Power Of The Plus Factor, Pawling, New York: Foundation for Christian Living, 1987, page 57.) He came to a tattoo studio. He looked in the shop window and saw samples of tattoos. There were flags, an anchor, a mermaid, and several other decorations. One tattoo astounded Dr. Peale. It consisted of three words that could be tattooed on one's flesh, Born to lose. Dr. Peale went into the shop. He pointed to those words and questioned the Chinese tattoo artist. "Does anyone really have that terrible phrase, Born to lose tattooed on his body?" The Chinese artist replied, "Yes, sometimes." Peale commented, "I just can't believe that anyone in his right mind would do that." The Chinese man tapped his forehead with his finger. He answered in broken English, "Before tattoo on body, tattoo on mind." No wonder Paul wrote, "Be sure that no one leads you away with false ideas and words that mean nothing (Colossians 2:8, The Everyday Bible)."
