After a football game between seventh graders, a furious father awaited the coach. Infuriated that his son had not been given enough time on the field, the father berated and insulted the coach before the team. The coach explained that he tried to play all his players equally and fairly. But the father was not satisfied. In a blind rage, he spat in the coach's face. This might have led to a major fight, but it didn't. The coach had the sense and wisdom enough to turn and walk away, setting, one hopes, a lasting example to the boys he coached.
One is reminded of Isaiah's words, "I hid not my face from shame and spitting."
