There is a tremendous power in seeing a complete reversal of an earlier decision. In March of this year an enormous controversy swirled around the testimony of National Security Advisor Dr. Condoleezza Rice before The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Against the United States. Following the testimony of a former subordinate, Richard Clarke, pressure mounted for Dr. Rice to respond under oath to his allegations about the administration's attitude toward the threat posed by Al Qaeda. Though she had already testified privately in February for more than four hours, pressure mounted. Both Rice and Clarke appeared on the show, 60 Minutes, on consecutive Sundays. After the issue was examined daily in the press via the court of public opinion, the president relented and instructed his advisor to testify.
