The prophet Jeremiah didn't want to speak publicly, in part because he didn't really think himself a prophet, and because he feared making a fool of himself. Had he been as imperious as American financier J. P. Morgan, he could simply have waffled. An investor approached Morgan as he was leaving his Wall Street office, hoping to get a free stock tip. He asked, "What is the market going to do next?" Said Morgan, heading down the sidewalk, "It will fluctuate."
